THE SITE
Welcome to Katamari Democracy! Katamari Democracy was started by a small group of college students to provoke semi-intelligent discussion and thoughts about matters they deem important and/or interesting. It’s a hodgepodge, a mishmash, a veritable gallimaufry of anything the authors are thinking or talking about, from sarcastic political and cultural commentary to random flash or Youtube videos.
In addition to being a first-class pun, the name translates to “a lump of democracy,” and represents the whole conglomeration that is our content. Well, technically, it’s just two nouns from two separate languages stuck together, “lump” and “democracy,” but if you use your imagination everything comes out right.
We try to keep things lighthearted through humor, and while we can be pretty passionate about whatever we’re talking about, we’re all laid-back people who don’t take the internet too seriously. So don’t be afraid to confront us about anything. We invite you to read, discuss, disagree, and, most of all, enjoy whatever you can find on the blog to enjoy. And if you like us enough, please check out our subscription page to keep in touch, and tell your friends about us!
DRAMATIS PERSONAE
Geographically, our authors are spread out from the western extreme of the Atlantic to the western extreme of the Pacific; from the East Coast to the West Coast to Hawaii, all the way out to Japan.
PushDustIn, our most prolific writer and co-founder, is a Japanese and International Studies major in Vermont, although originally from Connecticut. He scours the internet for news and interesting tidbits, focusing mainly on internet culture and video games. His interests include (surprise) video games and Japanese culture, politics, relaxing, and being very, very short.
Egmont, our longest-winded writer and other co-founder, is a Literary Studies major (with a focus on 19th century literature) and Religion minor in Vermont who will probably remain unemployed for the majority of his life due to his wonderful choice of major/minors, and plans to live under some newspaper on a beach in his native Hawaii. He enjoys reading, writing, using big words and archaic sentence structures, and making fun of PushDustIn.
Vicious is a part-time graphic artist, part-time model, and a sometimes student, based near San Francisco but originally from Hawaii. His interests include being busy and joining blogs and then not really writing anything in them, and conspiracy theories. He also helps us with a few of the graphics found on the site. The subjects of his writings are as diverse as his interests.
Lavarock is a lazy bastard (as in, a bastard, who is lazy) and our token moderate, being the only one of us not based in Vermont or San Francisco. He recently transferred back to his native island in Hawaii where he attends college. He enjoys surfing, writing, playing video games, and being filled with enough contempt and rage to post on the blog. His pieces examine the flaws of our society, primarily by making fun of them.
NesNes is our mysterious correspondent from Japan. He is currently studying abroad in Kyoto, but otherwise is a Japan-oriented International Studies major in Vermont (though originally from New Jersey). He enjoys languages, linguistics, history, the history of languages and linguistics, video games, and taking naps. Really, really long naps. All the time. Seriously.
